Piano Regulation

Regulation is the process of making technical adjustments to correct various problems rising from long use and atmospheric changes and to restore the condition of the piano to its original factory specification. Recognizing the need for regulation is difficult since many of these problems slowly accumulate over time. However, a well-regulated piano rewards you with accuracy and smoothness of the touch in every key, easing the technical aspects of piano performance and allowing students to perform with an even touch.

Procedure (Grand Piano)

  1. Assessment: It is very important for clients to know and understand exactly what the problem of the piano is that needs regulation and/or repair for. These problems will be explained to the clients thoroughly.
  2. Check repetition spring
  3. Key Leveling: The keyboard should be perfectly level from one end to the other. Also the action should feel even (requiring same feeling of touch on the keys from note to note).
  4. Hammer Carding: Worn out hammers should be restored for tonal improvement.
  5. Alignment of all action parts

    • Let-off
